Short drama release checklist: rehearse the viewing journey
Check permissions, episode order, localized assets, release settings and live playback within a single release batch.
What should you check after editing a short drama but before publication?
An episodic release can fail through mismatched episode labels, endings pointing to the wrong next installment or mixed asset versions. Rehearse the viewer’s journey rather than stopping at upload success. Uploading and making content publicly visible are different states.
Define the release batch
Assign a batch ID and list episodes, languages, channels, planned time and time zone. Check documented scope and internal approval. Match each episode with an approved picture, subtitles, audio, artwork, title and description. Keep unresolved items in a blocker list.
- Include only intended episodes
- Match language assets to the current master
- Assign a blocker owner and due date
Follow the episode sequence
Enter through episode one and compare page labels, in-picture numbering, titles, playlist order and destinations. Keep trailers, episodes and compilations distinct. Check landscape and portrait crops for hidden subtitles and essential action.
- Match in-picture and page episode numbers
- Check recaps and next-episode prompts
- Match artwork to the correct characters and scene
Worked three-episode pilot
For a fictional E01–E03 batch, use the receiver’s available preview or restricted environment. Check E01 captions on mobile, E02 sound and picture on desktop, then enter E03 from the list to check its ending and onward route. Complete full review of all three afterward; sampling detects issues early but does not approve unreviewed episodes.
- Record device and asset version
- Link defects to episode and time
- Recheck dependent assets after corrections
Verify the live release
Check actual visibility, language, aspect ratio, audio, captions, ordering and links. Add live URLs and publication times to the batch. Follow an internal pause, replacement or withdrawal procedure for serious errors and retain the record. A successful upload does not establish review, distribution or revenue eligibility.
- Accept against actual playback
- Keep a correction contact and rollback plan
- Log live checks and unresolved issues
Before you hand over the work
- A release batch connects all required assets.
- Review the viewer’s journey, not only the upload list.
- A pilot helps diagnose; full approval covers every episode.
Demonstration projects and examples illustrate working methods. Follow the receiving party’s specifications and the scope agreed for your project.
