Content revenue reconciliation: estimates, final amounts and receipts
Match reports by period, content, channel and currency, then trace adjustments, agreed costs and allocations with a worked calculation.
Where do you start when platform reports, partner statements and bank receipts differ?
First compare amounts with the same period, scope, currency and status. For example, YouTube Analytics estimates may differ from finalized AdSense for YouTube earnings. This guide offers administrative checks and a hypothetical calculation, not accounting, tax or legal advice.
Preserve source reports and matching keys
Keep original exports unchanged. Record extraction date, account, channel, period, currency and report status. Match detail using work ID, platform asset ID, territory and period. If only account totals are available, label them as totals rather than presenting an assumed allocation as title-level receipts.
- Separate estimated, finalized and paid amounts
- Check period and time-zone boundaries
- Keep exports and transformation steps
Record differences individually
Give every adjustment an amount, sign, applicable period, evidence and owner. Record contract-permitted costs separately. Do not overwrite a source amount to force agreement. Currency conversion needs an exchange-rate source, date and agreed method; unexplained differences remain unresolved.
- Separate platform adjustments from project costs
- Link verified costs to evidence
- Do not hide unknown differences as miscellaneous fees
Worked allocation example
For illustration only, an initial report shows 1,000 currency units and a confirmed adjustment of −50, leaving 950. Suppose an agreement permits 100 of verified costs: the example allocation base is 850. A hypothetical 60% share produces 510, leaving 340. These figures are neither NUOWA pricing nor default terms.
- Confirm the agreement’s calculation basis
- Check that 510 plus 340 equals 850
- Do not finalize payables from estimates alone
Match payments and approvals
Match confirmed allocations to payment notices, settlement periods and bank receipts. Timing, fees or conversion differences need supporting evidence. Keep matched, pending and disputed items distinct, with owners and approval records; do not invent entries to remove a discrepancy.
- Record the evidence for each match
- Assign unresolved items and next steps
- Use appropriate professionals for formal financial treatment
Before you hand over the work
- Compare like periods, scopes, currencies and statuses.
- Keep adjustments and costs traceable.
- A reproducible calculation does not confirm contract terms.
Demonstration projects and examples illustrate working methods. Follow the receiving party’s specifications and the scope agreed for your project.
